Top 5 Tips For Preventing Wrinkles

Whether you are in your 20s and trying to prevent wrinkles or you are older and looking to treat current wrinkles and prevent more from forming, there are five important tips that will help you achieve healthier skin.

Avoid UV rays. We have all heard this one. The sun and other tanning devices that emit UV rays have been linked to the formation of wrinkles. That is not to say that you should wrap yourself in a blanket from head to toe or avoid going outside at any cost in an effort to prevent your skin from wrinkling. Just be aware of the threats that prolonged UV exposure poses for your skin. When you know you are going to be outside for long periods of time, take the precaution of lathering on the sunscreen and consider wearing a hat to shade your face. This can go a long way in preventing the onset of wrinkles.

Use gentle facial products. There are overwhelming amounts of products available to treat every skincare issue you could imagine. They all make lofty promises about preventing signs of aging. In choosing your skincare regimen, opt for products with the most gentle and natural ingredients to meet your needs. Using harsh acne-targeted cleansers or creams that are full of chemicals can damage your skin over time, breaking down the skin's elasticity. Over-drying your skin can significantly increase the appearance of lines and wrinkles on your face. To prevent from over-treating your skin, research ingredients in the products you use and simplify your skincare routine to eliminate unnecessary or unhelpful products.

Watch what you eat. The nutrients you take in impact your overall health and help your body fight the stressors that cause the skin to break down and age. Foods rich in antioxidants have been shown to improve the health of skin, thereby preventing wrinkles. Drinking the recommended daily amount of water and refraining from excessive alcohol intake also helps maintain the elasticity of skin.

Don't smoke. It seems like laws are cracking down on public smoking across the United States. Cigarette smoke has been linked to numerous health issues, included skin conditions. Restricted blood flow is often cited as a cause of wrinkles, especially around the mouth. Smoking has demonstrated health consequences that can contribute to accelerated aging, so avoid cigarette smoke if you hope to improve your complexion and keep a youthful appearance.

Take a break. Our daily lives are jam packed with activity ... and stress. Many studies show that stress can cause or at least aggravate many skin conditions, including wrinkles. So, don't forget to make some time to relax and participate in activities that you enjoy.
